DEMO 09 Conference

I noticed on chapter ten it talked about news conferences. News conferences are called by public relations directors where some interaction with the news media needs to take place. The situation may be when a major announcement needs to be made by management, or an event given, or when a person's time in the area is limited. The whole point or a news conference is to allow as many questions to be asked as possible.

I found a PR related news article on prnnewswire.com. The article was called, More Than 230,000 Viewers From 80 Countries Experience the DEMO 09 Conference. The main idea of the news conference was the use of technology from BitGravity, Facebook(R) and Twitter enabled the exclusive executive conference to reach and engage a global community.

In the article the Executive Vice President of Network World and DEMO states, "In today's challenging economic climate, conferences like DEMO have to be creative and rethink the ways in which they operate to reach the broadest audience in order to have the greatest impact," he also said. "By leveraging leading edge technology like BitGravity and social community-building services like Facebook and Twitter, we were able to offer our demonstrators, our live attendees and our virtual audience a world class experience like never before."

For Facebook(R) there were huge advances in that users updated their Facebook status directly from the DEMO 09 Live player and could also see and comment on status updates posted by friends and other Facebook users tuning in to the broadcast. Status updates posted on the Live Feed were published in the user's Facebook News Feed with a link tagged back to the DEMO 09 Live stream, so friends could click the tag and watch the stream while participating in the conversation.

  • Demo 09's numbers included:

  • 39 Demonstrator Companies

  • 500+ Onsite attendees

  • 80 countries viewed DEMO

  • Over 230,000 views of the conference via the BitGravity player

  • 4,000 Facebook status updates posted via the DEMO 09 Live widget

  • 1,900 posts to Twitter and blogs

  • 188,900 social media impressions from blogs and Twitter

  • 25% - 40% increases in Twitter followers, Facebook fans and LinkedIn group members in the days surrounding the event.

I figured since Facebook(R) just continues to grow and this was a conference on a demo and how it worked with Facebook(R), it was a good PR article to use. To learn more DEMO 09 and how it works with Facebook go to, http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=56791963694&ref=mf.

Latino Playstation(R)

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the words video games? I will take a guess that it is between two to three things, Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo. That being said, what do you think those who live in Latin America think when the words video games come up? Well until now it wasn't much, maybe Nintendo or some old systems but none of what North America provides.

Today in Foster City California, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) officially announced the expansion of PlayStation(R) business into Latin America. According to the article, Sony Computer Entertainment America Expands Its PlayStation(R) Business Reach With Its Launch in Latin America, "Latin America is a pivotal step in SCEA's mission to bring engaging entertainment to people around the world, already consisting of an active worldwide install base of 21.3 million PLAYSTATION(R)3 (PS3(TM)) computer entertainment system, in addition to more than 17 million registered accounts for PlayStation(R)Network." This means that PlayStation(R) is not starting to make their move in expanding to other countries. It states that 13 countries will be introduced to PlayStation.

The director and general manager of Latin America SCEA says in the news wire, "Our commitment to expand PlayStation business into Latin America supports our vision to provide access to social entertainment experiences that can be shared among friends and family from around the world. This expansion is the direct result of us listening closely to our community, and we're proud to deliver premium hardware and software services that will allow them to easily connect, play and communicate with one another."

In addition to software services, Latin American users will now have the opportunity to maximize their online experiences with added functionality from peripherals that make it easier to communicate. Peripherals like the PS3 Blue tooth Headset and PlayStation Wireless Keypad enable users to connect and communicate with each other in and out of games.

I'm guessing that this is just the start of the expansion for PlayStation(R) and Sony(R). They are starting to make their way around the world to be the first in many ares and gain respect from those countries. The news wire was good to send out to add some publicity to the fact that their expanding although it could put some pressure on their competitors, and in return make them begin to expand. Another good thing that comes from the news wire is that the president added his voice in the article, which helps the countries know that he has interest in the topic.

Super Bowl! Now what to eat?

Nothing is more watched then when the two final teams in the NFL go face to face at the Super Bowl. People from all around the world tune in and cheer for the team they want to win. Whats better then hanging out with those you love with food and your choice of drink? But the question is....what to eat? Some like to do their own thing, pick up snacks, hors devours, the whole mix of things. Others like to go out and eat at a restaurant or bar and grill. For those who are true Americans we go the good old American way, pizza! Nothing tops off watching the Super bowl with friends and enjoying a big pizza.

That Is why I feel bad for all those employees who get scheduled to work at Pizza Hut(R) on the big day. "As football prepares to crown a new champion, Pizza Hut(R) prepares for the company's biggest day of the year, one in which approximately 2.5 million orders are placed for pizza, pasta and wings(Skinner)." Not only do they have to miss one of the biggest watch athletic sport event, they have to work on the busiest day of the year! It is said that on the big day, Pizza Hut(R)s business increases about 55 percent.

Some interesting facts that Pizza Hut(R) posted are:
  • Will sell enough pizza to cover more than 50 football fields
  • Employees would cover all 32 NFL fields lying head-to-toe
  • If each slice of Pizza Hut(R) pizza sold were laid end to end, the pizza trail would stretch halfway across the United States
  • Pepperoni is the most requested pizza topping, followed by Italian sausage and extra cheese
  • Anticipates selling more orders of Tuscani Pastas, including the new Tuscani Lasagna, than there were fans at the league's two conference championship games
  • The number of WingStreet(R) wings expected to be sold would be enough to give a chicken wing to every citizen of Phoenix and Pittsburgh.

Pizza Hut(R) also introduced thier new Tuscani Pastas. This with the pizza and wings should help to bring in even more profits.

The article I wrote about called, Football's Big Day is Busiest Day of the Year for Pizza Hut, hits up the topic of how big pizza is during the game and how Pizza Hut(R) has its largest sales. I liked this article because not only am I one of those who buy pizza on the big day, but I have had to work on Super Bowl weekend. The article hits up the two types of different public, the internal and external. The owner writes to tell customers about their good deals and how busy they are, which is the external. He also adds choices for the game day along with a strategy on how to order. To hit up the internal public, he writes about his employees and what they have to go through. Not only does the owner have to be aware of the customers and connecting with them but he must let his employees know that he understands what they go through. He probably could have added more to his article, when it comes to deals or how they work when their that busy. I have to admit, although I feel for the employees, I will once again be one of the many to order a pepperoni pizza and maybe even one of the pastas!
