Super Bowl! Now what to eat?

Nothing is more watched then when the two final teams in the NFL go face to face at the Super Bowl. People from all around the world tune in and cheer for the team they want to win. Whats better then hanging out with those you love with food and your choice of drink? But the question is....what to eat? Some like to do their own thing, pick up snacks, hors devours, the whole mix of things. Others like to go out and eat at a restaurant or bar and grill. For those who are true Americans we go the good old American way, pizza! Nothing tops off watching the Super bowl with friends and enjoying a big pizza.

That Is why I feel bad for all those employees who get scheduled to work at Pizza Hut(R) on the big day. "As football prepares to crown a new champion, Pizza Hut(R) prepares for the company's biggest day of the year, one in which approximately 2.5 million orders are placed for pizza, pasta and wings(Skinner)." Not only do they have to miss one of the biggest watch athletic sport event, they have to work on the busiest day of the year! It is said that on the big day, Pizza Hut(R)s business increases about 55 percent.

Some interesting facts that Pizza Hut(R) posted are:
  • Will sell enough pizza to cover more than 50 football fields
  • Employees would cover all 32 NFL fields lying head-to-toe
  • If each slice of Pizza Hut(R) pizza sold were laid end to end, the pizza trail would stretch halfway across the United States
  • Pepperoni is the most requested pizza topping, followed by Italian sausage and extra cheese
  • Anticipates selling more orders of Tuscani Pastas, including the new Tuscani Lasagna, than there were fans at the league's two conference championship games
  • The number of WingStreet(R) wings expected to be sold would be enough to give a chicken wing to every citizen of Phoenix and Pittsburgh.

Pizza Hut(R) also introduced thier new Tuscani Pastas. This with the pizza and wings should help to bring in even more profits.

The article I wrote about called, Football's Big Day is Busiest Day of the Year for Pizza Hut, hits up the topic of how big pizza is during the game and how Pizza Hut(R) has its largest sales. I liked this article because not only am I one of those who buy pizza on the big day, but I have had to work on Super Bowl weekend. The article hits up the two types of different public, the internal and external. The owner writes to tell customers about their good deals and how busy they are, which is the external. He also adds choices for the game day along with a strategy on how to order. To hit up the internal public, he writes about his employees and what they have to go through. Not only does the owner have to be aware of the customers and connecting with them but he must let his employees know that he understands what they go through. He probably could have added more to his article, when it comes to deals or how they work when their that busy. I have to admit, although I feel for the employees, I will once again be one of the many to order a pepperoni pizza and maybe even one of the pastas!

  1. Good post; I never knew that about Pizza Hut before, but it doesn't surprise me. In your last paragraph, talking about external and internal publics, you make a good point when talking about management. I also work at a restaurant in Valley, and we don't get so busy during the Super Bowl, but we have our busy days. When a bunch of us were working last Easter, our manager of course wanted us to be busy (and we were!) and promoted our buffet, but she also realized that most of us were in college and wished we could go home to our families instead of being stuck at work.

There are plenty of situations in PR where things like this happen. Someone, somewhere is always going to be disappointed, but someone, somewhere else is going to be happy. It's inevitable

  2. Life has its ups and downs and this is no exceptions in the life of pizza hut employees on super bowl day, as your blog clearly emphasizes. The super bowl Sunday is such an exciting day, everyone is in such a happy party mood, and ready to sit around and watch the game with all the exciting commercials.

I like how you point out the disadvantage to be a Pizza Hut employee on super bowl Sunday. I myself fall into the tradition of ordering pizza on super bowl day, and I never really gave it much thought on how the employees would feel having so many orders to make and deliver that day, I surely would not want to be in their shoes.

This is their biggest sales of the year for Pizza Hut. Like I said in my opening “Life has its ups and downs” the up’s in this situation would be the owners of Pizza Hut making huge sales and profit that day, and the down’s unfortunately would be the employees of Pizza Hut.

  3. Pizza Hut is well known for their pizza and much more now with their pastas. It would be a disadvantage to be an employee of Pizza Hut on the day of Superbowl. On the bright side you have to look at the extra tips you may get if you are a delivery person. I am one who is guilty of eating pizza on the day of the big game along with all of the other great food there was!

  4. There’s nothing better than eating pizza during a football game. I usually order pizza and have it delivered so I don’t have to go out and pick it up. But I couldn’t imagine working on the day of the Super Bowl because I have never missed a Super Bowl game. The only good thing about working during on the day of the Super Bowl is that you would make money. Your fact you found are very interesting. Covering 50 football fields with pizza and all the employees could cover all 32 football fields.

  5. I feel for those employees in one sense, but then again, there is no guarantee that everybody working there even wants to watch the Superbowl. All though million and millions of viewers tune in to watch the teams battle it out for the ultimate prize in football, I know many people, who find no interest in that, and some of those people may work at Pizza Hut(R). I will admit that I was one of the individuals who sat down the night and watched the big game, but many people need to consider the fact that not everybody thinks that football is life.
