Latino Playstation(R)

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the words video games? I will take a guess that it is between two to three things, Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo. That being said, what do you think those who live in Latin America think when the words video games come up? Well until now it wasn't much, maybe Nintendo or some old systems but none of what North America provides.

Today in Foster City California, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) officially announced the expansion of PlayStation(R) business into Latin America. According to the article, Sony Computer Entertainment America Expands Its PlayStation(R) Business Reach With Its Launch in Latin America, "Latin America is a pivotal step in SCEA's mission to bring engaging entertainment to people around the world, already consisting of an active worldwide install base of 21.3 million PLAYSTATION(R)3 (PS3(TM)) computer entertainment system, in addition to more than 17 million registered accounts for PlayStation(R)Network." This means that PlayStation(R) is not starting to make their move in expanding to other countries. It states that 13 countries will be introduced to PlayStation.

The director and general manager of Latin America SCEA says in the news wire, "Our commitment to expand PlayStation business into Latin America supports our vision to provide access to social entertainment experiences that can be shared among friends and family from around the world. This expansion is the direct result of us listening closely to our community, and we're proud to deliver premium hardware and software services that will allow them to easily connect, play and communicate with one another."

In addition to software services, Latin American users will now have the opportunity to maximize their online experiences with added functionality from peripherals that make it easier to communicate. Peripherals like the PS3 Blue tooth Headset and PlayStation Wireless Keypad enable users to connect and communicate with each other in and out of games.

I'm guessing that this is just the start of the expansion for PlayStation(R) and Sony(R). They are starting to make their way around the world to be the first in many ares and gain respect from those countries. The news wire was good to send out to add some publicity to the fact that their expanding although it could put some pressure on their competitors, and in return make them begin to expand. Another good thing that comes from the news wire is that the president added his voice in the article, which helps the countries know that he has interest in the topic.

  1. In response to your blog, I think that even before this expansion of Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) in Latin America PlayStation, Nintendo and XBOX were the major video games already in those countries.

I think that this move to expand would enhance their products more and probably increase their sales in part of the world.

These games are also very popular in other parts of the world like Asia, Africa and Australia. Sony would benefit greatly if they also decided to expand to these regions of the world.

  2. I am a big fan of playing video games just like a bunch of other people in the world and I don’t know what I would do without video games. I think it is a good thing that Playstation and Sony are getting people involved all around the world. You can use your PS3 for many different things. Technology has come a long ways since the first Playstation came out. Now being able to play online is the big thing. Many users just play online now instead of just playing by themselves or having friends over to play against.
